Industries that use heavy machinery producing heat, or the
ones that use process fluids, always have a central chiller. Chiller helps them
maintain the optimum temperature required to run the operations. It is vital to
understand the working of the chiller, to decide which chiller works best for
which industry. In this article, we will thoroughly explain what a chiller is?
And how does it work?
What is Central
Chiller?
A centralized cooling system under which the chiller provides
cooling to the entire plant or building is called a central chiller. It is a
better and a practical approach than installing chillers at each particular
location.
How does Central
Chiller work?
It works on the principle of vapor compression. The chiller
maintains a continuous flow of coolant to and from the machinery. As it enters
the processor, it cools the equipment up to the desired temperature level and
comes out of the other area of the machinery. As it moves back, it extracts the
heat along with it.
It then uses the vapor compression principle and circulates
the refrigerant through a device known as an evaporator. The evaporator works
as a heat exchanger by transferring the heat captured by the coolant during the
flow into the refrigerant. After this transfer, the heat gets evaporated in the
form of vapors, and the temperature of the coolant reduces. The refrigerant
then flows into a compressor, where it isolates from the vapors and converts
into the liquid form.
There are various types of chillers available in the market,
and depending upon which type you get, the working may differ a little, but the
basic idea remains the same. Different types of chillers are:
Water-cooled Chillers
These chillers circulate the water from the condenser again
and again from a cooling tower to condense the refrigerator.
Air cooler Chillers
Air-cooled chillers depend on the air to cool the condenser
down. It works fine in medium or small-scale enterprises.
Depending upon the requirement and size of the industry, one
can choose the type of central chiller. However, it is significant to pay attention to the product
quality and seller details to get efficient results!
